Experience counts

Performance Manifolds was started by now managing director Phillip Corbet.

His fetish with performance cars started at 15 years old, building a street sedan in his old man's shed.

He got his learners licence in a Datsun 1600, but decided not to tell the driving examiner that with the heavy mods and NOS plumbed in it was 175hp at the rear wheels and good enough to keep any V8 honest.

As a third year apprentice mechanic the next project was a 16-valve alloy block SR20 quad 48mm Motec with a ported & flowtested head on my own superflow110 & cams = 170Hp natrally aspirated @ the wheels.

The proof is in the laptimes, and in 1998 Phil recorded the fastest qualifying time in the under 2lt Club Car Nationals at Eastern Creek with the SR20 engine (pictured left) with a laptime of 1.49.89.

He finished 2nd in Australia for the second year in a row (1997, 1998).

Bathurst

BATHURST BOYS: Phil (fourth from right front row) was all smiles after helping pit crew for the Graphic Skills Racing Team, finishing 14th outright at the 2000 Bathurst, the second privateers past the post.
